The seminar paper I posted here is an early attempt to do something a bit more interesting than just counting horses. It's still fairly basic, but I'm thinking about whether I could develop it into a book. The most difficult thing is getting the dull empirical stuff from the administrative records and the more exciting cultural stuff to work together.

Thanks for reading it! It's good that this thing isn't disappearing entirely into the memory hole. And I'd love to see what you come up with out of it for your 17th-c. cavalry work.
