I can't say I'm desperate to find out what happens in EIB. With games like that it's almost a relief to finish them and get it out of the way. It's unfortunate that the skirmish mode is so rubbish as it could have a lot of potential. BF2 looks good but I don't like the setting. Maybe if there's a good WW2 mod for it I might get it. I could always pick up a cheap copy of BF1942, but it's quite old and I've heard single player isn't up to much. And I want to try CoD2 when I get a chance. For some reason I prefer playing FPS in winter so it's pretty much out of season now.

I played Earned in Blood shortly after completing Road To Hill 30. I never finished Earned in Blood. To be it was just too much of the same. The reparative nature of the game became boring. Personally, I am realism junkie and I love Call of Duty 2.
I think Historical FPS are currently in a bit of a lull. For me the next advance will not be in graphics (though with the PS3 they will improve) it will be with the linear nature of games. It is only a matter of time before players are able to explore fully functional worlds. Go where they like, do what they like. To some extend your already get with Battlefront 2, more so online or LAN.
However, Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood, together with titles like Full Spectrum Warrior and even Counter strike, show gamers are willing to learn and implement complicated squad based tactics.
Whether this will lead to historical reconstructions I have no idea…
