PS: if you haven't already seen it, the Electronic Textual Editing collection is available in online format at the TEI site: http://www.tei-c.org.uk/Activities/ETE/Preview/index.xml

We use jEdit for the XML markup. The core of it is a basic text editor, but there's a suite of XML plugins which enable validation against a DTD (and a lot of other stuff we haven't even tried). And it's free.

Looking forward to seeing how the projects go!

Hi Gavin,

My research assistants and I have been using oXygen to mark up files with TEI XML and I am really impressed with how handy it is. I'm sure we haven't scratched the surface of what it can do. In addition to Cohen & Rosenzweig and the Companion, I'd also recommend Susan Hockey's book Electronic Texts in the Humanities, and a new collection edited by Burnard, O'Keeffe and Unsworth called Electronic Textual Editing.

I'm looking forward to hearing how your sample projects go. They sound great.

Best,
Bill
